Option Choices

GHS Options The Bigger Picture

Key Stage 4 Options

Welcome to our Key Stage 4 (KS4) Options page. This is a key milestone in your child’s education, where students select the subjects they will study in Years 10 and 11.

We strongly encourage families to read the Options Information Booklet carefully. It provides clear details on each course, including content, assessment, and progression pathways.

At Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, we are committed to ensuring every student makes informed, ambitious choices that reflect their strengths, interests, and future goals.

Year 9 Curriculum Choices

Choosing your subjects in Year 9 is an important step as you move into Key Stage 4. The choices you make will shape your learning in Years 10 and 11 and support your future pathways.

Students should think carefully about:

  • The subjects they enjoy
  • Where their strengths lie
  • The opportunities their choices may open in the future

Teachers, tutors and families will support students throughout this process to ensure the best possible decisions are made.

Please read the Subject Information Booklet carefully to support informed and ambitious choices.

Religious Studies and Modern Foreign Languages

Religious Studies (RS) is a compulsory GCSE for all students at Mossbourne Fobbing Academy. Students will complete the RS GCSE at the end of Year 10, securing an early GCSE qualification and allowing greater focus on other subjects in Year 11.

Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) remain an important part of our curriculum. In future cohorts, Spanish will be compulsory. However, for the current Year 9 cohort, languages are not compulsory.

French is offered as an optional GCSE. Students may choose to study French, and we strongly encourage this as part of a broad and balanced curriculum, but it is not required.

Guidance for Students

Students should aim to choose a balanced range of subjects that keeps future opportunities open.

  • Choose subjects you enjoy and are motivated to study
  • Consider where you are likely to achieve strong outcomes
  • Think about how your choices support your future goals

We also encourage students to consider subjects that contribute towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc). This represents a strong academic foundation and is valued by colleges, universities and employers.
