Option Choices

GHS Options The Bigger Picture

Key Stage 4 Options

Welcome to our Key Stage 4 (KS4) Options page. This is an important stage in your child’s education, where students choose the subjects they will study in Years 10 and 11.

We strongly encourage you to read the Options Information Booklet carefully, as it outlines each course, assessment structure and progression pathways. At Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, we are committed to supporting every student to make informed, ambitious choices that reflect their strengths and future aspirations.

Year 9 Curriculum Choices

Choosing your subjects in Year 9 is an important step as you move into Key Stage 4. The subjects you select will shape your learning in Years 10 and 11 and help prepare you for future study and career pathways.

Students should consider the subjects they enjoy, where their strengths lie, and the opportunities these choices may open in the future. Teachers, tutors and families will support students throughout this process.

Please read the Subject Information Booklet carefully to help guide informed and ambitious choices.

Religious Studies and Modern Foreign Languages

Religious Studies (RS) is a compulsory GCSE subject for all students at Mossbourne Fobbing Academy. Students complete the RS GCSE examination at the end of Year 10, allowing them to achieve an early GCSE success and focus on their remaining subjects in Year 11.

Modern Foreign Languages are an important part of the Mossbourne curriculum. In the future, Spanish will become compulsory as part of our curriculum model. However, languages are not compulsory for the current Year 9 cohort.

French is therefore offered as an optional GCSE subject within the options process. Students may choose to study French as one of their selected subjects, but it is not required for this cohort. We encourage students to consider a modern foreign language as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.

Guidance for Students

We encourage students to choose a balanced range of subjects that keeps future opportunities open. While career ambitions and personal interests are important, students are most successful when they select subjects they genuinely enjoy and are motivated to study.

We also recommend that students consider subjects that contribute towards achieving the English Baccalaureate (EBacc). This reflects a broad and academically strong curriculum and is valued by colleges, universities and employers.
