At Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, we are committed to Excellence, Unity, and a No Excuses approach in everything we do. A key part of this commitment is ensuring that our students are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and resilience needed to navigate the challenges of modern life. Our recent PSHE Drop-Down Day 2 provided an important opportunity for students to engage with real-world issues in a focused and meaningful way.

We were delighted to welcome a range of external specialists and organisations, including representatives from Essex Police, Brook, Open Road, and Gambling Harm, who delivered expert-led workshops and interactive sessions throughout the day. Their knowledge and experience helped bring vital topics to life and ensured students received clear, accurate, and impactful guidance.

This year’s Drop-Down Day focused on keeping young people safe, informed, and empowered to make responsible choices. Students participated in a series of workshops and discussions covering key topics including:

• Knife crime and personal safety
• County lines and gang exploitation
• Smoking and vaping
• Drugs and substance misuse
• Healthy relationships, contraception, and sexual health
• Gambling awareness

Through these sessions, students explored the real-life risks associated with these issues, while also learning practical strategies for staying safe, seeking support, and making informed decisions.

The maturity and engagement shown by our students throughout the day were impressive. Students contributed thoughtfully to discussions, asked insightful questions, and demonstrated a genuine commitment to understanding how these issues can impact young people and their communities.
