How Will Teachers Check Students’ Understanding?

Teachers regularly check understanding to ensure students are learning, remembering, and improving over time.

Our Approach

Independent Learning Tasks: Teachers set tasks linked directly to the Knowledge Organiser. These help students practise recalling key knowledge independently and applying what they have learnt.

Low-Stakes Quizzing: Students complete regular low-stakes quizzes—both in lessons and over time. These focus on recalling knowledge from current and previous topics, not just what was learnt recently.

Half-Termly Assessments: At the end of each half term, students complete a longer assessment that checks how well they can remember and use all the knowledge covered so far.

Why This Matters

  • Students revisit knowledge regularly, helping it move into long-term memory
  • Teachers can quickly identify gaps and misconceptions
  • Lessons can be adapted to address areas of need
  • Students build confidence and accuracy over time

The Big Picture

Our approach ensures students are not just memorising for the short term, but are building secure, lasting knowledge. This prepares them to succeed in lessons, assessments, and exams with confidence.
