PSHE Drop-Down Day 1 2025: Preparing Students for an Evolving World

At Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, we are committed to Excellence, Unity, and a No Excuses approach in everything we do. Our PSHE / RSE curriculum is designed to prepare students for an evolving world - developing the skills, values, and understanding they need to make a meaningful contribution and flourish in life beyond the classroom.

Our first Drop-Down Day of the academic year saw students across all year groups engage in a full day of purposeful learning experiences, discussions, and activities carefully tailored to support their personal development and wellbeing.

Empowering Students Through Meaningful Learning

Each year group followed a bespoke programme of study that focused on building essential life skills and knowledge. Topics included:

  • Managing Change and Friendships
  • Puberty, Body Confidence and Personal Hygiene
  • Healthy Eating and Emotional Wellbeing
  • Online Safety and Appropriate Behaviour Online
  • Finance, Budgeting and Employment
  • Mental Health, Screen Time and Staying Safe
  • Preparing for Post-16 Pathways and Careers

These sessions encouraged students to explore key issues affecting young people today - from managing digital footprints to maintaining positive relationships - while developing teamwork, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.

Throughout the day, students also took part in assemblies and practical workshops delivered by staff, alongside external input from organisations such as Essex Police, who led important sessions on online safety and appropriate online behaviour.

Our Remembrance Service and Rail Safety video provided powerful moments for reflection, linking personal development with social responsibility and community values.

Developing the Whole Student: Drop-Down Day 1 reinforced our belief that education extends beyond academic success. Students were encouraged to reflect on their wellbeing, aspirations, and the ways they can contribute positively to society. Confidence checkers and activity booklets helped them measure their own progress and celebrate personal growth throughout the day.

At MFA, we take pride in fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where every student can thrive. With our values of Excellence, Unity, and No Excuses at the heart of all we do, Drop-Down Days are an essential part of ensuring that our students are prepared not only for exams - but for life.

We look forward to PSHE Drop-Down Day 2 later this year, as we continue to empower our students to lead happy, healthy, and successful lives.
